                                  LESSON OUTLINE

 I. STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD             Psalm 56:3-4

II. FEAR LEADS TO STRESS IN THE SOUL                1 John 4:18

III. THE SOLUTION TO FEAR                                  2 Timothy 1:7

The Process of Moving From Weakness to Strength

1. Confession. When we confess known sins to God, we are immediately cleansed and can walk away confident that we will be restored to fellowship, filled with the Holy Spirit, and empowered for His work (1 John 1:7-10; Ps. 32, 38, 51; 1 Cor. 11:28-31).

2. Spirituality. This requires obedience to two commands: Do not grieve the Spirit (Eph.4:30, which we do by sinning, secondly, Do not quench the Spirit (1 Thess. 5:19), which we do by being apathetic and indifferent to the Word. Dependence on the filling of the Spirit leads to disciplined study, prayer, and application of the Word of God.

3. Faith-rest. Here where we began to develop confidence in God and courage toward man and circumstances, by learning to rely on promises, principles, and doctrines of the Word. That reliance produces inner rest, peace, and tranquility (Phil. 4:6-7).

4. Living in the Word. “Living in the Word” means that we have come to realize that everything in life, but the Word of God is simply a detail (Matt. 4:4). We make the Word a priority (Ps. 119:103, 105). Study and application brings spiritual growth.

5. Occupation with Christ. Here we fulfill the command to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and all your strength” (Mark 12:30). This is how we develop an intimate personal knowledge of the person of Jesus Christ. We are able to move from the Written Word to the Living Word of God, from the page to the Person of Christ.
