SPIRITUAL CROSSTRAINING
LESSON 1 of 4:
CROSSTRAINING IS REQUIRED FOR DISASTER TESTING
TEXT:
Psalm 61:2; 1 Peter 1:6-8; 2 Chronicles 20:9
Memory
Verse—“Physical
exercise (training) has some value, but spiritual
exercise (training) is valuable in every way, because it
promises life both for the present and for the future.”
1 Timothy 4:8 (GNB)
Two
Categories of Disaster Testing
1. Personal Disaster
testing may be physical pain
caused by a crippling injury, disease, handicap, or genetic
weakness. It may be mental anguish, caused by the loss of
loved ones reputation, success, employment, money or
property (Job 1-42).
2. Historical or
National Disaster testing is a
situation that brings grief to many people. Hurricanes,
tornadoes, and floods cause widespread damage as do powerful
earthquakes, tidal waves, or volcanic eruptions. Insects or
plant diseases may kill crops leading to economic
depression and epidemics can decimate a population as well.
THE SOLUTION TO
DISASTER TESTING: THE FAITH-REST DRILL
1. Claim a Biblical
promise. God’s provision is in His
promises and His wealth is in His Word. This first step
helps to neutralize the shock of the crisis and stabilize
your mind. The believer is able to establish inner peace and
cast out fear or self-pity(1 Jn. 1:18).
2. Apply a doctrinal
rationale. Now that you have
regain your ability to think clearly you are able to clarify
your eternal relationship with God. Instead being
overwhelmed by the complications of the problem you are
confident in His support (Phil. 4:13, 19).
3. Reach a doctrinal
conclusion. You know that God will
not only support, but also bless believers that are moving
forward in His plan. Personal and historical circumstances
never hinder God as we face national or worldwide disasters
(Gen. 37-50).
Principle:
“Every solution to every problem in life is linked to the
Cross of Christ.”
“What then shall we say
to these things? If God is for us, who then is against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered us all, how
will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
